Theft offences have been be-
coming one of the serious problems in Mon-
golia for last two decades. Almost everybody
has experienced to be theft victim. The main
purpose of this study is to make analysis and
conclusion on current state of sentencing for
theft. Information resource was collected
from National Police Agency, Research center
at Supreme Court, and Judicial research, in-
formation, training institute at Judicial General
Council. Last five year statistics show that av-
eragely 8900 theft incidents reported in a year
at police which is 1036 or 11.7 percent out of all
crimes adjudicated. As for sentence type and
length, 80 percent of defendants were im-
posed imprisonment. It reveals that sentence
policy has been very strict towards defendants.
