Historically, pickpocketing has been a crime at all times, but today it has evolved into an organized crime group that targets economically disadvantaged individuals. Although pickpocketing is prevalent in major cities around the world, the criminal code of all countries does not clearly recognize the crime of pickpocketing.
Pickpocketing is common in many countries around the world, and is usually more widespread in densely populated and tourist-rich regions and cities. However, the circumstances and statistics vary from country to country, making detailed comparisons on a global scale difficult. This research review article examines the status of pickpocketing in Mongolia, factors influencing its occurrence, public attitudes towards pickpocketing, and briefly discusses citizens' opinions on prevention efforts and practices introduced in some foreign countries.
